About the event

SWDG LLC: Sacred Spaces Self-Care @ Sea Re-Treat
Sacred Spaces Self-Care @ Sea Re-Treat is the field experience program of The School of Sekhmet, the professional development, formation, and certification arm of SpiritWork Development Group LLC, where Radical Hospitality, Sankofa, and Africentric spiritual care meet the open water, sacred lands, and communal rest.
Rooted in the work of the Radical Hospitality Sankofa Re-Treat, this program extends our circle beyond the retreat center into moving sanctuaries—cruise ships, coastal cities, island spaces, and ancestral lands—where Black women, spiritual caregivers, and our wider village can reconnect, be restored, and rest together.
The Sacred Spaces Self-Care @ Sea Re-Treat: Tortola Homecoming Re-Treat is the inaugural travel immersion of the School of Sekhmet. This offering is a Sankofa journey by way of sacred waters back to Tortola, BVI, the birthplace of The AfriSpiritual Midwife, Rev. Dr. Rhonda.
For 7 days, we honor the sacred rhythm of creation, completion, and rest. We travel as a healing village, chaplains, clergy, Black women professionals, caregivers, and community leaders, committed to restoring our bodies, renewing our spirits, and deepening our ancestral connection.
This Re-Treat lives at the intersection of:
Radical Hospitality – creating life-giving spaces of justice, rest, and belonging for Black bodies and souls.
Sankofa – returning to the land and waters of origin to gather wisdom for where we are going.
Ubuntu – traveling as a village, remembering I am because we are.
Ma’at – seeking balance, order, reciprocity, and right relationship with self, community, and creation.
During this 7-day journey, you can expect a fusion of:
Morning grounding practices- Breathwork, centering prayer, song, or gentle movement to align mind, body, and spirit.
School of Sekhmet- Professional development sessions
Womanist-informed spiritual care for Black women professionals and caregivers
Africentric spiritual midwifery: leadership, transitions, and rebirth
Radical Hospitality in oppressive systems
Embodied practices for emotional, spiritual, and vocational resilience
Sacred circle time at sea and on land- Healing conversations, story-sharing, communal affirmation, and guided reflection.
Ancestral & land-honoring rituals in Tortola- Grounded, respectful practices marking this as a Sankofa homecoming—honoring the land of Rev. Dr. Rhonda’s birth and the wider African Diasporic story.
Intentional rest and joy- Time for spa visits, decks and sunsets, journaling, land excursions, laughter, and simply being.
To honor transparency and good stewardship, this Re-Treat is structured in two parts:
